Hunkered down in a hostile environment
La Bastida is difficult to spot from any of the natural communication routes. Away from the fertile lands of the valley, the Argaric people urbanized 45,000 m2 of a steep hill that reaches 450 meters above sea level.
From a bird’s eye view, it appears to us hunkered down, secluded and dwarfed at the confluence of the Rambla Salada and Lébor watercourses. Like a timid elevation protected by a majestic mountainous circus: the giants Cabezo Gordo and Sierra de la Tercia.
The hill is surrounded by ravines that fall steeply towards Lébor and Salada watercourses, being only accessible with relative ease through the north slope. La Bastida is, in other words, an almost impregnable place undercover by the mountains.
